Nature Conservation Law encompasses the law on: protecting habitats and species; relating to the management of designated areas; relating to shooting and fishing.
The law on the protection of habitats and species is relatively new but is increasingly important. The consequences of breaching the law can be very serious. The main legislation in this area derives from European Law; as this is implemented and interpreted by the European Court, it has an ever increasing impact on land management. Shooting and fishing are important to the economy and landscape of the Scottish Highlands.
We provide advice on all the relevant aspects of law and both Colin Liddell and Duncan Thomson act as factors for a number of sporting estates. Duncan Thomson advises nature conservation bodies, landowners and farmers on all aspects of Nature Conservation Law and takes a keen interest both in the development of this area of law and in its practical application to people's livelihoods.
