Now in its second edition, this fascinating book gives an insight into the history of Pitlochry, unofficial capital of Highland Perthshire, from the Ice Ages to the floods of 1993.
Published in 1993 (by Perth & Kinross District Libraries - ISBN 0905452143), the book uses 75,000 words, with over 150 photographs and plans, to tell the story of one of Scotland's most visited and well-loved tourist centres, home to the clansfolk of Robertson, Reid, Murray, Stewart, Fergusson, MacGregor and others.
The author is Colin Liddell, a third generation lawyer in the firm of J. & H. Mitchell, W.S., of Pitlochry and Aberfeldy. It was the second ever partner of the firm, Hugh Mitchell, who wrote the previous histories of the District in 1911 and 1923.
Colin's objective was to write a readable account, as he is not a historian and tires of inpenetratable stuff. Indeed, it was his legal training, sifting through material and testing evidence, which enabled him to tackle the task which involved only 18 months between his buying his first computer and his producing the finished book for sale! This is a book which has something for everyone !
